Garden Advice in 6 Words

I saw a post on a different subject that challenged the writer to provide advice in 6 words.  So I took up the cause and came up with ten garden advice tips.

  1. Provide wide paths in your gardens - as I get older I have come to appreciate paths to provide easy access to garden beds.
  2. Go native with plants and mulch - what comes naturally in the landscape reduces workload.  Native plants can tend themselves and mulched plant materials and leaves provide an easy mulch.
  3. Grow what you like and enjoy - experimenting is all fine and dandy but a little of it each year is enough.
  4. Embrace nature with natural common elements - a dead tree stump, a rock garden, natural ground cover makes it easier on the gardener.
  5. Sometimes a little effort is enough - no need to overdo it.
  6. Messy gardens can be more natural - see above, same concept.
  7. Bring the garden close to you - locate herbs by the back door, thirsty plants by the water source, the vegetable garden by the kitchen.
  8. Go gentle with avoiding garden pests - less and more natural pesticides and herbicides.
  9. Be intentional to showcase your garden - a mowed path might be all that is needed to offset a garden bed or an area left natural.
  10. Diversity is the key to health - if there is only one type of plant in your yard and it gets hit with a pest or disease, all the rest of the same type may be susceptible.  Grow variety.
Do you have any bit of advice in 6 words or less?
